If you stop by the Westmoreland House on Thursdays, you will probably be greeted by our cheerful desk volunteer, Jeanette Pearce. Jeanette has a unique history with this House. She and her sister began volunteering when the House first opened in 1991. They helped do the original setup of the bedrooms, stocked linen closets, and prepared the House for our first families. They continued as weekly volunteers for about three years, then both left the House when their family lives became too busy to continue.
In 2005, Jeanette contacted the House to arrange a pickup of furniture she was donating for the Ronald’s House Sale. The volunteer who did the pickup recognized Jeanette from her previous time at the House, and encouraged her to come back and volunteer again. As a new retiree, Jeanette had time to give, and she soon took over a weekly shift helping to staff our front office. In 2006, Jeanette’s husband Glenn joined on as a volunteer van driver, and in 2007 the Pearces became Relief Managers at the Westmoreland House. They now run the house on weekends every month or so. This year, Jeanette also took over the scheduling of community service groups who wish to help out around the House. We are so grateful to have Jeannette (and Glenn!) on board.
